At the age of 19, she published her first debut single Here. This single received a lot of attention and was well-liked from critics as well as listeners. The song was unique due to the fact that many listeners were able to relate to the conversation she conducted with rapper Rap-Up on her journey to learn to love and be her. Cara's songs often include positive messages regarding mental wellness and the importance of loving oneself. The music she sings is reflective of her personal struggle with insomnia and mental health. In an interview with Reuters she said that her album was "half tumultuous" and "half flawless". She found that therapy made her stronger and she encourages other artists to follow the same path. Alessia Cara has been a Canadian artist since the year 1996. Her parents come from Italian descent. Her first guitar was purchased by her parents when she turned 10 which ignited the passion for music. At 13 years old, she began performing her favourite songs via YouTube a major media platform to prove to the world she had the talents and the determination to be an artist.
