Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa the city of Ontario. The first goal she had was to dance but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I grew out of my male counterparts, I gave up. Former dancers often turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was an urging from her drama teacher. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in school's annual play. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. For the past twenty years, her roles on television and the big screen have varied. Her role as Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast for Season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
